Saleem Altaf was born in 1944 in the Walled City of Lahore. He played 21 test matches and 6 ODIs for Pakistan between 1967 and 1978. His father Syed Altaf Hussain Bokhari was one of the earliest Muslim doctors in Colonial Punjab, and was an avid fan of cricket.
